From December 1st, 2019 New Zealand will require a 15% GST tax on all imported shipments entering the country. The GST addition to international goods and services started on December 1 requiring overseas businesses to directly charge New Zealand customers.

How is GST calculated?

The GST amount calculation depends entirely on shipment total costs. All shipments require a GST tax payment which includes the value of shipped goods and the shipping costs with their optional insurance services added.

The cost for a US guitar purchase at USD 600 (NZD 942) with added shipping costs of USD 50 (NZD 79) requires a 15% GST payment of $97.50 (NZD 154) on the combined expenses. The total expense for buying and shipping your guitar becomes $747.50 (NZD 1174) when you add $600 for the purchase price $50 for the shipping cost and $97.50 GST tax.

We collect GST for total shipment costs to New Zealand but other governmental fees might apply to your shipments with additional GST charges on those fees that you need to pay upon delivery in New Zealand. We do not collect fees charged by the authorities in New Zealand although you will need to pay them directly when the shipment reaches its final destination.

Saudi Arabia

Effective 1 July 2020

International customs shipments now follow new procedures published by the Saudi Arabian Customs Office. Starting from 1 July 2020 every shipment to Saudi Arabia needs to pay a 15% value-added tax (VAT) independent of its declared value.

We do not add VAT charges to your invoice nor will it appear in your purchased items. Whenever your package reaches its delivery destination the Saudi Arabian government takes VAT from the carrier.

Effective 10 September 2018

The Saudi Standards Metrology Quality Organization (SASO) along with the General Authority of Customs implemented new policy requirements for importing electrical and electromechanical devices. You need conformity testing and Certification of Electro-Technical Equipment and Components (IECEE certificate) from SASO to pass customs for products in these categories.

Electrical and electromechanical equipment include various products that include

  • Batteries (including mobile phone batteries)
  • Lighting equipment
  • Water pumps
  • Laptops and tablets
  • Washing machines and dishwashers
  • Televisions

Saudi Arabian shipments need to obtain an IECEE certificate by applying through the Saudi Arabian government at http://jeem1.saso.gov.sa/

Effective 01 January 2018

International shipments now follow a new clearance procedure which the Saudi Arabian Customs Office recently implemented.

Starting from 1 January 2018 all deliveries need to pay a 5% value-added tax (VAT) without any value limits. We do not charge value-added tax to customers so the tax appears neither on your invoices nor on your final bill. VAT collection occurs at delivery time through the carrier network by the Saudi Arabian government.

Any shipment with a declared value exceeding US$266 probably needs formal clearance from the Saudi Arabian government to obtain the necessary documentation. When our team provides help with the requested documentation, packages require additional time for processing and involve additional processing fees.

Important Points
  • Customers require a Company Registration (CR) for formal clearance of commercial shipments since Saudi Customs needs them to register the carrier as their nominated broker. This formal clearance applies to shipments that exceed personal use requirements. To clear customs at Saudi Arabia's borders the receiver needs to submit both their IOR National ID card and a copy of it.
  • Missing valid Company Registration (CR) or National ID card documents with proof of importer identity at Saudi Arabian customs gates will lead to Saudi Arabia Customs Authority financial penalties. The shipment will go back to its original location when the receiver fails to present an operational CR or national ID card for clearance.
  • Additional details about customs procedures can be obtained at the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Customs Website.
Effective: 25 September 2017

The Saudi Arabian Customs Department bans any entry of smartwatches into the nation. We cannot handle smartwatch shipments because we cannot deliver such products to Saudi Arabia.

To fulfill further requirements shipments need a Certificate of Conformity (COC) together with equivalent supporting documentation.

  • The COO completion service along with storage fees imposed by carriers requires payment from you after they process your documents. The required documents need immediate preparation.
  • Any shipment having a value beyond US $10,000 needs documentary proof of financial payment.
Effective: 20 April 2016

As per the Saudi Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) rules a single individual may submit up to one monthly shipment containing 15kg (33 lbs) or less weight. Residents can find current information about this policy change by contacting their local customs department. All cosmetic and non-prescription medicine and food items bound for import into Saudi Arabia need to have an authorized permit before entering customs.

Send this form to clearance.drug@sfda.gov.sa through email when the Saudi Food and Drug Authority requires it. You have two options for SFDA document assistance through the phone number 01 2759222 or by using the email mds@sfda.gov.sa

DHL has the capability of delivering dangerous items including nail polish and perfume together with other hazardous materials to Saudi Arabia. DHL transports dangerous goods through their Bahrain hub before they wait for ground delivery to reach their final destination.
